I am David Sichinava, a human geographer with fifteen years of experience in social research and policy analysis. Currently, I work as a Research Analyst at the New York-based Langer Research Associates and occasionally teach at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. Previously, I served as Research Director at the Tbilisi-based research think tank CRRC-Georgia and Assistant Professor of Human Geography at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. I also taught as a visiting lecturer at the International School of Economics at Tbilisi State University (ISET). Concurrently, I am involved in a design-research practice, Collective Domain.
Academically, my interests include politics, urban development, and the intersections between these fields. My recent research has focused on global public opinion polling, elections, urban politics, and issues related to conflict and forced displacement. While my professional expertise primarily involves quantitative methods—such as opinion polls, experiments, quantitative text analysis, geographic information systems, and spatial analysis—I strongly believe in methodological pluralism in research.
At Langer Research Associates, I primarily contribute to the company’s international projects, focusing on survey methodology and data quality assurance. During my tenure at CRRC-Georgia, I led or participated in approximately sixty research initiatives addressing public policy and academic topics. I co-authored around twenty reports and policy documents and managed large-scale data collection and analysis projects, for instance, cross-national opinion polls in the South Caucasus and parts of Eurasia, as well as analyses of Georgian-language ultra-right groups’ social media pages, to name a few. Additionally, I have conducted numerous focus groups and in-depth interviews.
Throughout my career, I have provided consultancy services to Georgian and international organizations in areas such as mapping, statistical analysis, and research design. With colleagues, I co-founded Georgica, a database of academic publications about Georgia; Pollster.ge, an aggregator for election polling data; and Covidinfo.ge, a platform aggregating coronavirus data in Georgia.
